Upazila

While most of the “action” for achieving the SDGs must take place at the Union level, many of the key financial and human resources from the relevant government ministries reside at the Upazila level.

Each Upazila Parishad has a chairman, a vice-chairman and a woman vice-chairman. All three are elected through direct popular election. Union Parishad chairmen within the upazila are the members of the parishad. In addition, the respective Member of Parliament representing each Upazila serves as an advisor to the parishad whose advice carries enormous weight.

Given the importance of the upazila to its member unions, The Hunger Project’s localization strategy also place a staff member to work in support of its Union Coordinators in the area. [is this what we plan to do? what else should we say about this level]
